Almost everyone I know these days is interested in nutrition. Or, maybe I should say that everyone is interested in weight loss. All I can say is that the word "points" should have its own dietary related listing in the dictionary, if it doesn't already. But anyway....
I was doing research for an idea a friend of mine had about a nutritional website and I came across this really neat tool on the www.USDA.gov website. It's called the What's in the Foods You Eat - Search Tool. Just type in what food you're interested in and voilà, all the information you never wanted to know about that food is listed for you. If you really want to know what you're eating, try it out!

In my opinion, nobody is born a perfectionist. Something along the path of one's life makes them either strive to be the best they can be or--NOT.
Today, I'm musing about the "or NOT." Imagine going through life doing only just enough to get by. Can you? I have trouble imagining that. Yet, there are many people out there that live that way, every day. Now, let me state again that nobody is perfect (even those who believe they are). No one can be even close to perfect because people are human and humans make mistakes. So with that said, what is it about those few people that don't even want to try to aspire to be the best they can be? No answers? Me either. I suppose it might stem from childhood experiences. But the concept of totally slacking is so foreign to me and offensive and irritating that I can't deal with it. That is a flaw in my character, I suppose. Now, I've seen it for many decades now, the "just enough to get by" attitude. So, it's not a matter of "those kids today" or "this generation." And, to be redundant let me say: Nobody's perfect. And, everyone is entitled to an off day, week, or month now an again. I just wish someone could explain how people can go through life either not realizing that they're slacking or deliberately doing just the bare minimum. Because, truthfully, I'm done trying to figure it out. One of my co-workers had a valid comment about my previous post. Her pet peeve is that some drivers choose the fast (or passing) lane to go grossly below the speed limit. Now, this has happened to me before (and to everyone, I'm sure).
I've proven to myself (by observation of many, many drivers) that it doesn't really matter whether a driver is going the limit or going 5 (or 7) miles over the limit in terms of getting through the light before it turns red. For the most part, both types of drivers get there at the same time. (Of course, if you're going over 10 or more miles over the limit, that might get you through that light. And get you a speeding ticket too!) Still, when you're stuck behind a snail it is irritating knowing that you are going too slowly to get to where you need to go on time and that there's nothing you can do about it. Every day on the way to work, without fail, someone gets in front of me going well below the speed limit. Now that's fine when there are multiple lanes to change to. But when you're down to one lane (and it's not a construction zone) driving too slowly can really cause a back up. And, yes this is all obvious--to most. Those other individuals who don't realize this ... well, what can I say that will wake those people up? Anyway, there you go. Two sides of the topic in the same blog, for what it's worth. |
