Ohayo, mina san. Hello everyone. This week I have the Ya, Yu and Yo katakana characters: Do you remember this set in hiragana? They help to form digraphs. Check out my blog post on the set Ya, Yu and Yo if you'd like to refresh your memory. Okay, here are some words using the ya, yu and yo katakana set: メニュー Menu = menu ヨーグルト Yoguruto = yogurt (yoh goo roo toh) ヤング Yangu = young (yahn goo) Here's the video from Japanesepod101. If you'll recall, I posted their Day 7 video last week. Today I'm posting their Day 9 video. It's not a mistake and I know it's not in the order they posted them. I'm following my katakana chart and for me, the Ya, Yu and Yo are next. Although all the digraph blends are reviewed in this video, I'll be going over the digraph blend katakana characters after we finish the regular katakana characters. So, that will be coming up in a future post. For now, here is the Japanesepod101 10-Day Katakana Challenge video featuring this set: Yes, this week I have a new free practice writing worksheet for you featuring Ya, Yu and Yo.
That's all for this week. Come on back next week for the next katakana character set. See you next week.

Konnichi wa, mina san! This week we have the Ma, Mi, Mu, Me and Mo katakana characters:
As you'll notice the ma and mu characters are very similar. I like to remember Ma as sort of a Mamma's face (nose to be precise) and Mu as a cow's nose and mouth. (After all a cow does say Moo!)
Now, for some words that contain this set of katakana characters: マスター Mastah = master (a skill) (mah stah) ミシン Mishin = sewing machine (mee sheen) メモ Memo = memo, note (meh moh) モデル Moderu = model (moh deh roo)
Here's a video from Japanesepod101 with this character set and their pronunciations:
This week's free writing practice sheet featuring ma, mi, mu, me and mo is below. I hope you're enjoying writing this katakana set!
Okay, that brings this week's post to a close. Until next time, mata ne.
