This is one of my favorite hiragana sets. See if you can figure out why? We've already covered: CC BY-SA 2.0, Link Original autor : Karine WIDMER. ( http://www.escale-japon.com ) So it's time for: な Na sounds like the beginning sound in nod or not. に Ni sounds like knee ぬ Nu sounds like the word new or knew. ね Ne sounds like the beginning sound of net. の No sounds like the beginning sound in note or no. Ok, here are some new words using what we've learned so far: おとこのこ otokonoko = boy きのこ kinoko = mushroom いぬ inu = dog かね (or お-かね) kane (o-kane) = money Please enjoy the next video in the Japanesepod101.com 10-Day Hiragana Challenge series: Wasn't that fun? It's always easier to hear the sounds as you're learning them. This week I have for you a really kawaii (cute) writing practice sheet inspired by the N-sounds:
Well there you have the fifth column! Thanks for reading. またらいしゅう Mata raishu = See you next week!

Hello! I don't know about you, but we've been having a heatwave where I live. With the high temperatures, having to stay inside where it's cooler is so much more fun when you are learning something new. In this case, it's a language and it's Japanese.
Let's look at the hiragana chart. The sounds we've learned so far, in my previous posts, are highlighted in green.

Since we've already learned colums 1, 2 and 3, today, I have the next hiragana set for you: Ta, Chi, Tsu, Te and To.
た Ta sounds just like it's written, sounding like the "ta" in tada!
ち Chi sounds like the beginning sound of cheap. つ Tsu is just like the beginning sound of tsunami--that's because tsunami is a Japanese word! て Te sounds like the beginning of the word tell. と To sounds like the word toe but not as drawn out. This is exciting! Now we can read some more words: くち Kuchi means mouth. くつ Kutsu means shoe. た こ Tako means octopus.
Here's the column four set in another helpful video from Japanaesepod101.com. Use my referral link when you're ready to join! Thank you :)
And, I have another worksheet for you. I'll be making all of these available again after we finish the entire hiragana alphabet. So, if you miss one, not to worry. Thanks for reading. Mata ato de.
Update: Sorry, there was a typo in the writing practice sheet so I corrected the error. Here's the corrected version. Enjoy!
This afternoon, I am proud to introduce the hiragana alphabet set Sa, Shi, Su, Se, So
さ Sa has a similar sound to the beginning sound in the word sop or sovereign. し Shi differs from the pattern we've been seeing in the hiragana sounds. Instead of sounding like si (see), , sounds like she or the beginning sound of sheep. す Su sounds like the name, Sue. せ Se sounds like the beginning of the word cent. そ So sounds like the English word so. Take a look at this helpful video highlighting these new sounds:
This week's freebie practice writing sheet features Sa, Shi, Su, Se and So. Thank you for reading.
