If you will recall, I began to grow vegetables in self-watering containers this spring. I meant to update with photos but I totally forgot. So below are "after" and "now" photos of my container garden. A few weeks of growing time for the broccoli and cauliflower. A couple of weeks later.... The white powder is diatomaceous earth. Unfortunately, although the plants were thriving, they were invaded by aphids, inch-worms and the vagabond grasshoppers that seemed to live in the neighborhood. The diatomaceous earth did a good job but we had to follow up with Neem spray because grasshoppers are next to impossible to deter. And, today.... We had to move the boxes to a new location, which seemed to work to deter to cutworms and inchworms. We've already harvested one huge broccoli head and one cauliflower head. The broccoli was beautifully delicious. The cauliflower, on the other hand, was too bitter. As you can see, after the main head was harvested, side shoots produced smaller broccoli heads. All in all, it was a successful experiment. I will, however, modify my boxes for the next crop. I plan to nest two containers within one another because cutting the lids on the first containers was very painstaking, painful on the hands and it destroyed two box cutter blades.
I've also since tried the 5 gallon bucket self watering container. The strawberries planted within it are very happy.

To anyone reading this, I'm taking a short hiatus. Work has driven me to exhaustion and since I don't seem to have a following to disappoint by not posting here, I may as well take a break.
For anyone following me, I'll be back. She's short, she's stocky but boy can she run. And, run she will through the snow covered, cobbled paths of Loch Modan on quest after quest. Her now pet spider is her faithful companion on her long and arduous journeys. Ah, World of Warcraft®! Who would've thought I'd be playing that pay-to-play classic?! It wouldn't be quite accurate to say that I'm addicted toWorld of Warcraft® gameplay. However, if there were any game out there now that I might be come addicted to, it would be WoW. As always, cost is the prohibiting factor. With the economy being what is it, the raise freezes at work (second year now) and the interest rates on charge card balances, mortgages and other daily life bills taking their chunk of blood money, I cannot foresee playing World of Warcraft® for longer than my two month game card allows. Still, I'm relishing the gaming experience, enjoying the various races and landscapes and gaming challenges and wishing the economy would turn for the better so I can continue to enjoy WoW gameplay. Don't get me wrong, I'm not working to play games. World of Warcraft® is my first pay to play game since I canceled my Runescape account. And, THAT was my only pay to play game ever. (I'm a big believer in free gameplay. There are many, many such candidates out there.) I work to be able to live close to the lifestyle that I've grown accustomed to (ie, eating every day, having a roof over my head, being able to pay for clothing and being able to go out to the occasional restaurant meal, etc.). So with that said, I would like to thankWorld of Warcraft®and all those involved in its creation for providing quality, engaging and challenging gameplay. Hi ho, hi ho it's off to quest I go....
