If you've been watching along with the Japanesepod101.com videos you have already learned about the dakuten (or tenten). Even so, I think it's time to introduce these special diacritical marks. が this sounds like the beginning sound of got (gah). ぎ this sounds like the beginning sound of the word gear, or the liquid butter: ghee. ぐ this sounds like the word goo, or the beginning sound of the word goop. げ this sounds like the beginning sound of the word get (geh). ご this sounds like the word go (goh). Here are some words using these new sounds: えいが English (the language) - Eigo (eh ee go) かぎ key(s) - Kagi (kah ghee) ご く If you like Dragonball Z you'll recognize this one: Goku (goh koo).
